Does anyone have a any knowledge of how strong the base the tower is on is? Would emagine a water tower base would be very strong. Would have had to excavate deeply for that. But a water tower seems a reasonable bet.

One additional idea for the water tower/water tank. They're going to need a massive amount of concrete there for the pad. It would make sense for them to build a concrete production/mixing facility on site which would need a water tank to store the water needed for making concrete.
Is the crudeness of the welding and general look of it not enough to rule it out as a BFS hopper prototype?
Site plans that call for a water tower ...
Everybody keeps assuming a high water table here, but it's not the case in the dry areas. They didn't hit water with the 50 foot STARGATE pilings. They've gone 120 feet on South Padre without hitting water. It's only a problem in the wet areas like the pad.

So the water table is 50 or 100 feet below sea level even though the sea is less than 1000 or 2000 feet away? That's amazing. (not disbelieving you just amazed) Is the soil that impermeable? I thought it was pretty sandy.

There should be irregularly alternating lenses of permeable sand and impermeable clay.
